At One we believe that when you put people before business, you build for the long term.
That’s why One underwriters are free to build their book of business their way.
To play to their strengths. And share in the profits they generate.

Underwriters

Peter Godfrey

Natural Resources

Peter is a leading energy specialist with a career spanning over 30 years. His experience has given him a unique perspective, having been both a broker and an underwriter, worked both domestically and abroad, and in both the retail and the wholesale markets. It’s a perspective that means Peter understands the client/broker requirements, as
well as what he can offer in terms of real support.

In his most recent roles as Director of Underwriting, Lead Class Underwriter and latterly as a member of the Chief Underwriting Office he witnessed an increasing move to formulaic decision-making, driven by a dependence on actuarial and price models, and often serving corporate considerations ahead of individual account interests. Believing these to be of limited use to clients/brokers in the commercial market environment, and against the true spirit of entrepreneurship, he has brought his vast transactional underwriting and marketing experience to One to create and help build a natural resource portfolio.

Being based in London, Peter works primarily with wholesale brokers and is focused on creating long term relationships and writing a balanced and diverse Global upstream / downstream book of primarily short tail, physical damage based exposures within the One Natural Resources remit.

The natural resource team consists of two underwriters who are supported by an Exposure Analyst and an Underwriting Assistant. The offering will be both onshore and offshore underwriting with commensurate US$ line sizes. Their approach, and collective technical knowledge ensures that clients and brokers get direct access, quick and centralised decisions, as well as practical solutions on more complex risks.

Joshua Graham

Global Property

For Joshua, coming to One is about combining all his corporate discipline with an entrepreneurial style of underwriting. Sitting face to face with brokers and giving them quick decisions is, for him, the true spirit of the Lloyd’s market.

From graduation, Joshua originally joined Allianz where he gained his ACII qualification as Senior Property Underwriter in the London Market team. In 2012, Joshua then gained a Distinction in the MSc Insurance and Risk Management at Cass Business School; where he majored in Risk Analysis and Modelling, ART and ILS, and Corporate Insurance Strategy. At the completion of this Masters program, Joshua joined Goldman Sachs Group Inc to establish the Ariel Re Syndicate 1910 Direct and Facultative book in Lloyds’. He built close relationships with key brokers, cedants, and clients, focusing on structuring bespoke catastrophe deals to alleviate treaty-driven pressures for his cedants. He wrote business in all major global territories including US, Caribbean, Japan, New Zealand, Australia and Europe, and was present at Ariel Re Syndicate 1910 for the corporate exit from Goldman Sachs Group and into new ownership by Grupo BTG Pactual and The Abu Dhabi Investment Council.

Joshua joined ONE at its launch to establish its market presence and brand, and to lead the Global Property team. As Class Underwriter, Joshua seeks to recognise the needs of his clients, and works closely with brokers to deliver the coverage required, and forge long lasting relationships.

Richard Clark

International Property Direct & Facultative

In the International Property D&F market Richard’s expertise stands apart. Specialising in the Caribbean, the profitability of his portfolio is testament to his underwriting philosophy, and his belief that experience trumps formulaic underwriting.

Richard’s consistent performance, both in terms of loss ratios and account growth prompted him to move to One, where he is able to build the portfolio the way he wants.

Richard’s methodology is built on his ability to provide great flexibility in underwriting. He has built long standing relationships by offering brokers low friction access to the cover their clients require.

With his geographic knowledge, strong relationships and astute technical skills, it’s not hard to see why Richard has delivered, and continues to deliver, consistently high performance on his accounts.
